After both claiming their first collegiate titles at the Bradley Intercollegiate, sophomore Jake Hoffert and senior Natalie Burant of the BU cross country teams were honored as Missouri Valley Conference Male and Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

The MVC Freshman of the Year in 2016, Hoffert built on his strong rookie season by claiming his first career title on Friday. The sophomore ran the 8K course in 24:51.1 and edged out teammate Taylor Floyd Mews for the title. His time is currently the fastest 8K mark in the conference this season.

Burant followed with her first career championship as the senior started her final season in style. Burant won the three-mile race in 16:58.5, finishing nine seconds ahead of second place and shaving more than 30 seconds off her time on the same course a season ago.

Hoffert and Burant both led the Braves to team titles at the Bradley Intercollegiate as well, while earning the weekly conference honor for the first time during their careers.

BU is back in action on Sept. 30 when it travels to Indiana for the Sam Bell Invitational. The women's 6K begins at 9 a.m. CT, while the men's 8K follows at 10 a.m. CT.
