Braves to Play for Two Flight Titles at Home Invite

Sandra Maletin will play for the Singles Flight A title, Brandt/Wijesinghe the Doubles Flight B crown

PEORIA, IL - Freshman Sandra Maletin advanced to the Singles Flight A championship match, while the tandem of senior Alexa Brandt/Malini Wijesinghe will play for the Doubles Flight B title, their respective semifinal wins highlighting the second day of action in the Bradley Invitational Saturday at the David Markin Tennis Courts.

Saturday's action began with the semifinal matches in Singles Flights A, B and C and Maletin got the day started on a high note for the Braves by rolling to a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Northern Illinois freshman Thisuri Molligoda. Maletin will face Eastern Illinois freshman Rachel Papavasilopoulos in Sunday afternoon's Singles Flight A championship match, scheduled for a noon start at the Markin Courts.

After Bradley's five players posted a 4-1 singles record Friday, the only other singles win Saturday came from sophomore Natalia Barbery, who cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win against Eastern Illinois freshman Karla Contreras in the Singles Flight B consolation semifinals. Barbery will take on DePaul freshma Marija Jovicic in Sunday's B Flight consolation championship match.

The combo of Brandt and Wijesinghe earned their spot in the Doubles Flight B final by posting a 6-3 victory Saturday against the Eastern Illinois tandem of Shelby Anderson and Abby Carpenter. The Bradley duo will get Sunday's action started with their 9 a.m. championship match against another Eastern Illinois combo: Claire Martin/Srishti Slaria.

The final day of the Bradley Invitational starts at 9 a.m. Sunday with the Doubles Flight A and B championship and consolation championship matches. The third-place and seventh-place doubles matches will follow and the day will conclude with the final three rounds of singles action. Admission to Bradley Tennis events at David Markin Tennis Courts is free.
