Alexa Brandt Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior women's tennis player Alexa Brandt (Denver, Colo.) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after posting a combined 5-1 record at last weekend's Bradley Invitational.

Brandt combined with sophomore Malini Wijesinghe to claim the Flight B Double title, capping a 3-0 doubles weekend with a 6-4 victory over the Eastern Illinois duo of Claire Martin and Srishti Slaria in the championship match. In singles play, Brandt split her first two matches in the Singles Flight C bracket before topping Wijesinghe 6-4, 6-2 Sunday afternoon in the third-place match. Brandt moved into a tie for eighth place on Bradley's all-time victories list with 97 combined career wins. A health science major, Brandt owns a 3.67 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Brandt and the Bradley women's tennis team return to action Oct. 6-8 at the MVC Individual Championships in Normal, Ill.
