A career-best two goals from junior Matt Perry led the Bradley soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Aurora University on Wednesday night at Shea Stadium. The Braves even their record at 2-2-0 with the victory, while the Spartans drop to 2-1-0.
 
The Braves started the contest strong and a dominant edge in possession eventually led to a 33rd-minute strike from sophomore Jha'Lon Johnson. After a Bradley shot was blocked by a defender, Johnson created a turnover right outside the box before finishing from 20 yards out for his first collegiate goal and the 1-0 BU lead.
 
The goal proved to be enough on the night but the Braves added two more tallies behind Perry in the second half. In the 57th minute, senior Jacob Taylor sent a long throw-in into the box. The ball skipped to an awaiting Perry and the junior calmly finished for the 2-0 advantage.
 
Perry then added a second goal – just his third collegiate tally – in the 87th minute to secure the Bradley victory. David Kovacevic sent a cross in that Daniel Gardner chested down to Perry, who then finished to the left for the final 3-0 tally.
 
Graduate student Brandon Barnes stopped four shots in goal for his first clean sheet in the Bradley Red & White and the Braves' first shutout of the 2017 campaign.
 
Overall, Bradley finished the game with a dominant 23-5 edge in shots to go with an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
 
The Braves are back in action on Friday night with a home contest against Incarnate Word. First kick at Shea Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
