Game Recap: Soccer |
PEORIA, IL – A pair of second-half strikes from sophomore Younes Dayekh and a key spot kick save from junior Albert Reinwart led the Bradley soccer team to a 3-1 victory against visiting Omaha on Tuesday night at Shea Stadium. With the win, the Braves extended their non-conference unbeaten streak to 12 games and improve to 6-4-3 overall, while the Mavericks drop to 3-6-1.

The Braves grabbed the halftime lead thanks to a late own goal in the first period. Off a free kick, Frank Bak sent a cross into the box then found defender Jacob McKee. The junior headed the ball back toward goal with it deflecting off an Omaha defender and into the net for the 1-0 advantage in the game's 44th minute.

Bradley then wasted no time in the second half doubling their lead with the first of two great tallies from Dayekh. Just 36 seconds into the frame, the sophomore found the upper 90 of the goal from just outside the box for the 2-0 advantage. Both Gerit Wintermeyer and Richard Olson registered assists on the goal early in the second half.

The Mavericks pulled one back in the 51st minute when Mitch Hammer scored for the 2-1 contest.

The 76th minute then proved to be the deciding minute of the game. Trailing by just one tally, Omaha was awarded a penalty kick after a Bradley foul in the box. Facing the Mavericks' top goal scorer – Diego Gutierrez with seven tallies in 2018 – Reinwart made the game-winning save when he dove to his left to keep the ball out of the net.

The Braves then reclaimed their two-goal advantage just 30 seconds later when Dayekh scored his second of the season. On the break, Wintermeyer found his classmate open and nearly from the same spot, Dayekh again finished in the upper corner for the 3-1 final score. Bak also added an assist on the game-sealing tally.

Reinwart posted three saves overall to earn the victory for Bradley in goal.

Omaha finished the game with a 16-7 advantage in shots, while the Braves held an 8-7 edge in corner kick.

Bradley returns to Valley action this weekend with a road contest at Drake. Kickoff in Des Moines is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday.
