Lasha Petree Sweeps MVC Weekly Honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Freshman Lasha Petree (Detroit, Mich./Ann Arbor) swept the Missouri Valley Conference weekly honors with the six-foot guard named both the MVC Player of the Week and MVC Newcomer of the Week announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

For just the seventh time since the Valley introduced the Newcomer of the Week award for the 2003-04 season an individual earned both the Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week honors in the same week. Petree, who also earned MVC Newcomer of the Week honors earlier this season (Nov. 12), is just the fifth Valley freshmen to sweep the awards and is the fifth player in program history to earn multiple MVC Newcomer of the Week awards.

Petree knocked down 6-of-10 three-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points to lead Bradley to an 80-60 victory at Omaha Friday. Playing just 25 minutes, she had an efficient outing by making 9-of-16 from the field and also tallied one rebound, one assist and a pair of steals as she topped 20 points for the fourth time this season.

Petree helped the Braves match the second-longest win streak in program history with their eighth consecutive victory in addition to remaining one of 17 undefeated teams in the nation through games of Dec. 16. She scored 16 of her 28 points in the first half, including a 10-point outburst during a 19-5 Bradley run to close the second quarter and help the Braves to a 38-28 halftime lead.

Currently second in the MVC in scoring at 18.1 points per game, Petree ranks third in the nation among freshman in scoring and is just the sixth player in school history to have four 20-point outings during their freshman season.

Petree and the Braves return to action Wednesday, continuing a three-game road swing with a 4 p.m. (CST) contest at Cleveland State.
