Braves Shatter DMR Record at Notre Dame

South Bend, Ind. – The Bradley distance medley relay team competed against the nation's best on Saturday at Notre Dame with the team crushing the previous school record and now ranking among the country's elite.

In one of the strongest fields in the country, the Braves were 1-of-15 teams competing at Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational, including 13 Power 5 schools. The Bradley team consisting of Taylor Floyd Mews, David Shadid, Alec Hartman and Daniel Gagne finished the relay in 9:32.31 – shaving nearly 30 seconds off the previous record of 10:02.07, set at last year's Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

Overall, the Braves placed eighth of the 15 teams at Notre Dame. Stanford won the race in 9:26.91 and was followed by Oregon, Wisconsin, Indiana, Notre Dame, Texas and Iowa State.

Bradley did finish ahead of seven teams, including six from Power 5 conferences – Texas A&M, Iowa, Mississippi State, Princeton, Washington, Kansas and Florida State.

Not only did the Braves set the school record on Saturday, but it also marked the best time in the Valley in nine years. The last team to run a faster DMR was Northern Iowa in 2009 when the Panthers posted a conference-record mark of 9:30.51 – less than two seconds quicker than the Braves' time at Notre Dame. Bradley's time of 9:32.31 would have ranked 17th in the country last season.

The Braves return to action next weekend when they compete at the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship. The meet begins on Saturday on the campus of Northern Iowa.
