Short-Handed Braves Fall at Omaha

Maletin and Brandt win two of Bradley's five singles matches against the Mavericks

OMAHA, NE - The injury bug continues to bite the Bradley Tennis program and the Braves (3-4) were unable to overcome a short-handed lineup Saturday at Omaha, where the Braves dropped a 5-2 decision to the host Mavericks at the Miracle Hills Tennis Center.

After dropping the day's first point by falling in 2-of-3 doubles matches, Bradley played with only five players after regular No. 2 singles player Natalia Barbery was unable to continue into the singles round. Senior Aimee Manfredo has been out all season and senior Alejandra de Lasa continues to play only doubles as she returns from a knee injury.

Freshman Sandra Maletin again stood out at No. 1 singles, earning Bradley's first point with a 6-3, 6-2 victory, but the team result was decided before senior Alexa Brandt captured the second point with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. With her 55th career singles victory, Brandt took over sole possession of fifth place on the program's all-time singles victory list.

The Braves started their season-long, 8-match road swing Saturday and will stay in Omaha Sunday for a dual match against former Missouri Valley Conference rival Creighton. The 11 a.m. match at the Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center will be the first regular-season head-to-head contest in any sport between the two schools since Creighton moved to the Big East Conference in 2013.
