Barbery, Maletin Lead Braves by Chicago State

Bradley evens its season record by rallying for 4-3 road win against the Cougars

HOMEWOOD, IL - Sophomore Natalia Barbery and freshman Sanda Maletin both enjoyed a perfect morning on the court, helping Bradley (2-2) even its early-season record by rallying for a 4-3 non-conference dual match victory against host Chicago State (1-6) Sunday at HF Racquet & Fitness Club.

The Barbery/Maletin duo got the day started by rolling to a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, but the Cougars battled back to take the day's first point by capturing wins at both Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

Bradley took control and earned the overall team victory, however, by earning the first four singles points. Senior Alexa Brandt got the ball rolling by earning a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles for her 103rd career combined victory for the Braves. Junior Malini Wijesinghe followed wtih a similar 6-2, 6-3 result at No. 3 singles to put the Braves in front, 2-1. Maletin added a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles and Barbery earned the clinching point by following with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.

Although Bradley earned its third consecutive dual match win against Chicago State, the win at HF Racquet & Fitness Club was the first road win versus the Cougars in three tries since 2003.

Bradley will return home for a doubleheader Saturday at the Clubs at River City - 10 a.m. against Western Illinois and 2 p.m. versus Eastern Illinois. The twinbill against the in-state rivals will be Bradley's only home matches until April 7. The Braves will play nine consecutive matches away from home before hosting Missouri State April 7.
