Men’s Golf Tied For Sixth At D.A. Weibring

NORMAL, Ill. – Redshirt senior Zach Jewell is three shots off the lead at four-over par 146 after the opening day of play at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate and the Bradley men's golf team is tied for sixth of 17 teams heading into Sunday's final round. 
 
On a windy day at the par-71 Weibring Golf Club Saturday, Jewell had the low rounds of the day for the Braves with a pair of two-over 73's.  He closed the day in a tie for fourth at four-over par 146, three shots behind individual leader Griffin Barela of Wisconsin, who is at one-over par 143. 
 
Bradley followed up a first-round 308 with a 303 and is tied with SIU Edwardsville for sixth overall in the team standings at 43-over 611.  Duke, which is ranked 28th in the latest Golfweek.com rankings, has a commanding 11-shot lead on the field at 19-over 587, while tournament-host Illinois State is second at 598. 
 
Wisconsin rounds out the top three in the team standings at 602, followed by IPFW in fourth (608).  Oakland is two shots ahead of the Braves in fifth at 609, with Bradley and SIU Edwardsville close behind in a tie for sixth (611).  Missouri Valley Conference rivals Evansville and Drake are four shots back of the Braves and Cougars in a tie for eighth at 615. 
 
Junior Drake Bushong was one of three Bradley players to have a better second round Saturday, chasing a first round 77 with a 76 in the afternoon.  He is tied for 31st in the field at 11-over par 153, two shots out of the top 20. 
 
Senior Ethan Brue matched Bushong's second-round 76 to improve on his first-round score of 79 by three shots and is tied for 43rd at 155.
 
Redshirt junior Daniel Lensing was one shot better in the second round, carding rounds of 79 and 78 Saturday to close the day in a tie for 55th at 157.  Senior Matthew Specht rounded out the team scoring for the Braves in a tie for 64th at 159, firing rounds of 79 and 80 Saturday. 
 
The final round of the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate is scheduled to tee off Sunday at 9:45 a.m.
