BLOOMINGTON, IL -
Junior Malini Wijesinghe and senior Alexa Brandt picked up wins in the middle of the singles lineup, but it was not enough to prevent host Illinois State (10-8, 1-0 MVC) from earning a 5-2 win against I-74 rival Bradley (3-12, 0-1 MVC) in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams Saturday at the Bloomington Tennis Center.

Wijesinghe gave the Braves their first point by earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles and Brandt followed moments later with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 4 position to pull Bradley within 4-2.  With her victory, Brandt moved into a tie for fourth place on Bradley's all-time singles wins list.  She is now tied with classmate Aimee Manfredo, both with 58 career singles wins.

Bradley will return to action next Saturday, hosting Missouri State in one of just two Valley home matches this spring.  The dual against the Bears is now slated for a 1 p.m. start at Bradley Univesity's David Markin Tennis Courts, but is likely to moved indoors to the Clubs at River City if the long-range forecast remains consistent.
