Maria Schroeder Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior utility/catcher Maria Schroeder (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after helping Bradley Softball to a 3-2 record at last weekend's Blues City Classic in Memphis, Tenn.

Schroeder, who owns a seven-game hit streak, hit .500 with a triple, home run, five runs and six RBI in the five games as she scored or drove in 10 of Bradley's 34 runs over the weekend. She helped highlight a seven-run fifth inning in a 12-8 victory over UMKC with a two-run single and went 2-for-2 with a walk, one run and three RBI in the win. In a rematch with UMKC Saturday, she was 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored in a 9-2 victory. Against tournament-host Memphis, Schroeder was hit by a pitch twice and delivered a RBI triple in a 1-for-2 effort. She capped the week with a 1-for-3 performance in a win against IPFW in which she drew a bases loaded walk and hit a solo homer during a six-run sixth inning to help Bradley to a 7-3 victory. A marketing (social media) major, Schroeder owns a 3.86 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Bradley Softball hosts Illinois tonight in a 6 p.m. game at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex Dome.
