Game Recap: Softball |
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Allison Apke tied the Bradley single-game record with seven RBI and freshman Stacia Seeton had the ninth multi-homer game in program history as the duo combined for 12 RBI in a 19-5 victory over Eastern Michigan Friday morning in the opening game of the Louisville Classic.

Bradley (8-9 overall) matched a school single-game record with four home runs, which was set on this day four years ago in an 18-4 victory over Mississippi Valley State, and the Braves had their most runs in a contest since a 20-0 win over Jackson State in February 2004.

Eight of Bradley's 15 hits in the game went for extra bases and all nine starters scored for the Braves.  Apke and Seeton both collected three hits along with junior Gabby Stoner to help highlight the offensive outburst.

Bradley wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a bases loaded double by Apke, which cleared the bases.  Eastern Michigan (4-12 overall) took advantage of three Bradley errors in the bottom of the first, however, and led 4-3.

Stoner knotted the score at 4-4 in the top of the second with a RBI double to center, which plated freshman Vicki Zaluske

Apke got a two-out rally started in the top of the third inning with her second double of the game and came around to score on a Seeton single up the middle to give the Braves a 5-4 lead.  Freshman Jillian Navarro added two more runs when she ripped a full count pitch over the wall in center for the first of BU's four home runs as Bradley held a 7-4 advantage through three innings.

The Braves broke the game open with an eight-run fourth.  Bradley took advantage of an Eastern Michigan error to get a run and eventually loaded the bases for Apke, who hit her second grand slam of the season and her team-leading fourth home run of the year.  Seeton followed Apke at the plate and belted the first pitch she saw over the fence in center for the first of her two homers against the Eagles.  Stoner drove in another run later in the inning on a sacrifice fly and a Maria Schroeder RBI single capped the inning as the Braves pushed the lead to 15-4.  Schroeder was 2-for-5 at the plate to extend her hit streak to a career-best nine games.

Sophomore Emma Jackson sat Eastern Michigan down in order in the bottom of the fourth and Bradley tacked on four more runs in the fifth.  Kealia Wysocki singled to open the inning and Apke was intentionally walked to put a pair of runners on.  Just like her at bat in the fourth, Seeton homered on the first pitch she saw, hitting a three-run shot as she collected the first multi-homer game by a Brave since current junior Katie Habryle and now assistant coach Rachel Huggins both hit two homers in games against Wichita State on April, 16, 2016.

Stoner would drive in another run later in the frame to give Bradley a 19-4 lead on her third hit of the day.  Eastern Michigan struck for a run in the bottom of the fifth, before Jackson was able to close out the 19-5 victory for the Braves.  Jackson struck out three and walked none, while scattering four hits and one unearned in five innings out of the bullpen to earn the victory (3-2).

Apke's seven RBI matched the Bradley single-game record which has been done three times previously.  Huggins was the last Brave to drive in seven runs in a game, doing so during her two-homer game against Wichita State in 2016.

Bradley continues play at the Louisville Classic later today with a 1 p.m. (CST) game against tournament-host Louisville.
