Men’s Golf Falls To #13 Illinois 5-2

URBANA, Ill. – On a cold and windy day at the par-72 Stone Creek Golf Club, Bradley Men's Golf fell to 13^th-ranked Illinois 5-2 in an 18-hole medal match play event.

The Braves played their first team duel match since taking on Jacksonville in March 2014 with Saturday's medal match play event marking the team's final competition heading into the Missouri Valley Conference Championship later this month.

Each of the seven pairings played out each hole with a point awarded to the team that had the best round score in each group.

The Braves had the early lead as junior Branden Mounce topped Illinois freshman Varun Chopra in the first group. Junior Daniel Lensing halved his matchup with Brendan O'Reilly in the second matchup to give Bradley a 1.5-0.5 lead.

Giovanni Tadiotto pulled Illinois even in the contest by topping Bradley's Matthew Specht in the third pairing and the Illini went in front (2.5-1.5) on a Michael Feagles' win over BU's Michael Mounce. Junior Drake Bushong kept Bradley in the match by halving his matchup with Bryan Baumgarten.

Defending Big Ten Player of the Year and 2017 First-Team All-American Dylan Meyer locked up the win for Illinois, however, with a victory over Ethan Brue and Nick Hardy, who was a Second-Team All-American last year for the Illini, topped Zach Jewell in the final matchup to close out the 5-2 Illinois win.

Bradley will send a pair of individuals to Macomb, Ill., for the 46^th annual Beu Mussatto Invitational Monday and Tuesday before heading to Cape Girardeau, Mo., for the 2018 MVC Championship April 23 & 24 at Dalhousie Golf Club.
