Three Braves Earn NCAA Prelim Invite

Three members of the Bradley track and field team earned an invitation to the 2018 NCAA West Preliminary Round, announced on Thursday. Senior Taylor Floyd Mews, junior Haran Dunderdale and redshirt freshman Alec Hartman all qualified for the first round of the NCAA Championship, which will be held at Sacramento State May 24-26.

Floyd Mews qualified for the NCAA Regional event for the first time during his collegiate career in the 1,500m run. An All-MVC honoree in the event, Floyd Mews posted a qualifying time of 3:43.77 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 20 – the second-fastest time in school history. He enters the preliminary round as the 18th-ranked runner in the west region.

Dunderdale is making his second appearance at the NCAA West Regional in the 3,000m steeplechase. Before redshirting the 2017 campaign, Dunderdale advanced to the preliminary round of the steeplechase in 2016, where he placed 26th overall in the field of 48. The nation's 23rd-ranked runner in the event this year, Dunderdale posted his qualifying time of 8:50.90 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 19. His mark was just half a second shy of the school record, while last weekend he became the first runner in school history to win the steeplechase at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

Hartman is also making his preliminary debut as he is one of just eight freshmen in the west to earn selection in the 800m run. The runner up at both the indoor and outdoor Missouri Valley Conference Championship in the event, Hartman set the school's record with a time of 1:50.00 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 20.

Action at the NCAA West Preliminary beings on Thursday, May 24 with the first round of the 800m and 1,500m. The quarterfinals for both the 800m and 3,000m steeplechase are set for Friday, May 25 with the quarterfinals of the 1,500m on Saturday, May 26.
