AUSTIN, Texas -- For the second consecutive year and third time in program history, Bradley men's golf has an Academic All-American with senior Zach Jewell (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone/Illinois Central) earning Second-Team Google Cloud Academic All-America honors according to an announcement by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.

Jewell earned Second-Team Academic All-America recognition to join Bobby Jacobs (3rd Team in 2017) and Coby Thompson (2nd Team in 2011) as the only Bradley Men's Golfers to earn the honor.  In fact, Jewell is just the fifth men's golfer in MVC history to earn the award with Todd Obergoenner of Southern Illinois in 2008 and Evansville's Brent Miller in 1996 joining the Bradley trio among league honorees.

For the fourth consecutive year, Bradley has a pair of Academic All-Americans with soccer student-athlete Clark Emerson named a First-Team Academic All-American this past fall.

One of five Bradley men's golfers to take home CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, Jewell was a First-Team Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete in 2017-18 after earning honorable mention scholar-athlete recognition last year.  His season stroke average of 74.97 was third on the team and ranks 19th among Bradley season marks.  Jewell posted a 74.50 stroke average during the spring semester and a pair of top-10 finishes.

A marketing (professional selling) major, Jewell tied for third at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate to help the Braves defend their title.  He ranks seventh in school history with a 75.51 career stroke average.

Part of Bradley's first MVC Championship team in 2017-18, Jewell went on to tie for 63rd at the NCAA Regional in Bryan, Texas.  He was Bradley's top finisher in three events in 2017-18 and his five career rounds in the 60's are tied for fifth in school history.  Jewell matched the best round in school history with a five-under 66 in the final round of the 2017 Twin Oaks Intercollegiate as a junior.

A two-time MVC Honor Roll performer, the Illinois Central College transfer was named to the Bradley AD Honor Roll following all five semesters on The Hilltop.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his institution and be nominated by his sports information director.
