PEORIA, IL - After capping the second multiple-goal game of his career with the latest, regulation game-winning goal in program history Sunday, Bradley junior forward Roman Schindler (Vienna, Austria) has been tabbed the first Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week of the 2018 season, according to an announcement from the league office Tuesday.
Schindler scored both goals in Bradley's 2-1 win against Oral Roberts Sunday at Shea Stadium. Â After connecting on his first goal of the season in the 18th minute to give the Braves (1-0-1) an early, 1-0 lead, Schindler rose above the crowd to nod home a Younes Dayekh cross at 89:58 to give Bradley the 2-1 victory. Â The goal with two seconds remaining in regulation goes down as the latest, regulation game-winner in program history, supplanting a mark that stood for nearly 25 years, Jason Herrera's goal with 13 seconds remaining to beat Loyola Chicago Sept. 19, 1993.
With his two goals Sunday, Schindler took over as Bradley's active career scoring leader. Â A third-team United Soccer Coaches All-West Region and honorable mention All-MVC selection in 2017 when he led the Braves in scoring, Schindler's nine goals and 23 points through the first 22 games of his Bradley career now lead the team's current roster.
THE WEEK AHEAD
The Braves return to action with two more games this weekend - Friday (4 p.m. CT) at IUPUI in a matchup against former Bradley assistant coaches Brian Barnett and Ronnie Bouemboue and at home Sunday (1 p.m.) against Princeton in the 10th annual Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game. Â For the first time in the event's 10-year history, the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game will be played as a regular-season contest when the Tigers face the Braves for the first time. Â A tribute to the former Bradley Soccer player, how died shortly before the opening of the 2007 season, previous opponents in the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game have included Notre Dame (2009, 2014, 2016); Louisville (2010); Michigan State (2011); Kentucky (2012); Northwestern (2013, 2017); and Creighton (2015).
