Men’s Golf Third After Day One At Derek Dolenc Invite

MADISON, Ill. – Bradley Men's Golf is in the hunt heading into Tuesday's final round of the seventh annual Derek Dolenc Invitational after closing Monday's action four shots off the lead in third in the team standings.
 
The Braves tied for the low round of the day with a four-under 280 in the day's second round to climb into third in the 17-team field.  Tournament-host SIU Edwardsville fired a pair of one-under 283's at the par-71 Gateway National Golf Links and sits atop the leaderboard at two-under 586.  BU's second-round 280 tied for the fourth lowest team round in school history. 
 
Omaha opened up the tournament with a four-under 280 in the day's first round and is second at one-over 569, while Bradley (290-280) is one shot back of the Mavericks in third at 570.  The Braves have a three-shot edge on fourth-place UT-Martin (573) and six-shot advantage on fifth-place Tennessee Tech (576) heading into Tuesday's final round. 
 
Senior Drake Bushong is the leader in the clubhouse for Bradley at two-under 140.  Bushong, who is tied for third individually, followed up a one-over 72 in the first round with a three-under 68 to match the best round of his Bradley career.  The second-round 68 was Bushong's ninth career round in the 70's, which ranks third in school history.  Kyle Slattery of SIU Edwardsville is the individual leader at six-under 136 (71-65). 
 
Junior Charles Jahn and senior Michael Mounce are both three shots behind Bushong in a tie for 14th at one-over 143.  Jahn had the lowest opening round for the Braves, tying the lowest round of his career with a one-under 70.  He turned in a two-over 73 in the afternoon to close the day tied for 14th.
 
Mounce joined Jahn as the only Braves to have a better first round than a second round, chasing a first-round 71 with a one-over 72 in the second round to match Jahn's 36-hole score of 143. 
 
Senior Daniel Lensing, the reigning MVC Golfer of the Week, rebounded from a first-round 77 with the lowest round of his career.   Five birdies helped Lensing card a four-under 67 in the afternoon as he climbed into the top 20 in a tie for 18th at two-over par (144).  His 67 tied for the seventh lowest round in school history.
 
Fellow senior Branden Mounce also turned in a strong second-round performance, chasing a first-round 78 with a two-over 73 in the second round and is tied for 56th at nine-over 151. 
 
Sophomore Miguel Montelongo is in the field as an individual and sits in 90th at 159 after firing rounds of 78 and 81 Monday.
 
The final round of the Derek Dolenc Invitational gets underway Tuesday with tee times starting at 8:15 a.m.
