Braves Ninth After Day One At Golfweek Program Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Bradley men's and women's golf teams sit in ninth in the overall team standings at 20-over par after Sunday's opening round of the Golfweek Program Challenge.

The unique event features the men's and women's golf teams from 14 different schools with the squads combining their team scores from each of the three rounds to determine the overall Golfweek Program Challenge winner.

The Bradley men's squad is tied for fourth in the men's field at seven-under 281, while the women's team is 10^th in their event at 311. Five-time Golfweek Program Challenge champion Campbell holds the top spot in the men's standings at 19-under par and the combined lead at 20-under par 572.

On the men's side, senior Michael Mounce highlighted a strong day for the Braves with an opening-round six-under 66 at the par-72 True Blue Golf Club to tie the lowest round in school history. Mounce is tied for second individually, one shot back of individual leader Jesper Svensson (65) of Campbell.

Junior Charles Jahn carded the lowest round of his Bradley career with a two-under 70 to finish the day in a tie for 21^st overall, while senior Drake Bushong is one shot behind Jahn in a tie for 35^th after a first-round 72. Seniors Branden Mounce and Daniel Lensing rounded out the team scoring for the Bradley men with 73's (T43rd) as the Braves tied for the fifth-lowest round in school history with their seven-under 281.

Seniors Frankie Saban and Brooke Thompson along with sophomore Maddie Hawkins paced the Bradley women on the opening day of the season. The trio each fired matching 77's to open play at the par-71 Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and closed Sunday's action tied for 38^th. Junior Taylor Ledwein turned in an 80 Sunday and is tied for 52nd, while junior Megan Medinger is one shot back in a tie for 57^th at 81.

The second round of the Golfweek Program Challenge will get underway Monday morning with tee times starting at 6:45 a.m. (CDT).
