Malini Wijesinghe Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior women's tennis player Malini Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping the Bradley Women's Tennis team open its spring season with a 4-3 victory over Milwaukee.

Wijesinghe went 2-0 on the day, teaming with freshman Bozana Lojpur for a 6-3 victory at #2 doubles to seal the doubles point for the Braves. In singles play, she topped Milwaukee's Nikki Milner 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at #3 singles to claim the deciding point in Bradley's 4-3 win over the Panthers. A biochemistry, philosophy and Spanish major, Wijesinghe owns a 3.99 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Wijesinghe and the Bradley Women's Tennis team continue a four-match home stand to start the spring schedule Saturday with a noon contest against UMKC at the Clubs at River City.
