Freshman Bozana Lojpur claims the first Missouri Valley Conference Singles Player-of-the-Week honor of 2019

ST. LOUIS – Bradley freshman Bozana Lojpur (Burnaby, BC/Burnaby Mountain Secondary School) has been named the first Missouri Valley Conference Singles Player of the Week for the 2019 dual match season, according to an announcement from the league office Tuesday afternoon.

With the Braves (1-0) playing short-handed due to illness (Natalia Barbery) and injury (Nina Marjanovic), Lojpur pulled out a 3-set victory at No. 2 Singles to help Bradley rally for a 4-3 win in its season-opener Sunday against Milwaukee. After dropping the first set, 6-3, Lojpur forced the extra frame with a 6-0 romp in the second set. With the Braves trailing in the team score, 3-2, Lojpur earned a 6-2 triumph in her third set against Milwaukee's Mayya Perova to push the match into a 3-3 tie.

With the win in her collegiate dual match debut, Lojpur (8-5) now shares the team lead with eight overall singles wins this year. She becomes the fifth player in Bradley Women's Tennis history to be selected MVC Player of the Week, joining Ariel Dechter, a 5-time recipient from 2015-17, Nicole Miller (2011), Kennedy Scott (2013) and teammate Malini Wijesinghe (2018).

Bradley will continue its season-opening, 4-match home stand by hosting defending Western Athletic Conference champion UMKC in a noon dual Saturday at the Clubs at River City. Admission is free for all Bradley Tennis regular-season home matches.
