ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Freshman guard Lasha Petree (Detroit, Mich./Arbor Prep) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after helping lead Bradley Women's Basketball to a 79-68 road win at I-74 rival Illinois State according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.

Petree earned the distinction for the third time this season to join Shronda Butts (2011-12), Katie Yohn (2009-10) and Michelle Lund (2008-09) as the only three-time MVC Newcomer of the Week winners in program history.  She is also tied with Illinois State's TeTe Maggett for the most MVC Newcomer of the Week awards this season.

In Saturday's win at Illinois State, Petree came off the bench to score a team-high 21 points in 17 minutes of action, scoring 16 points in the second half to help the Braves pull away down the stretch.  She was 8-for-14 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, and also tallied four rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal to help Bradley improve to 3-0 on the road in MVC play for just the third time in program history.

Petree had a personal 7-0 run late in the third quarter to help the Braves push a one-point lead to eight and added nine more points in the fourth quarter.  The third freshman in school history with five 20-point games, Petree now has the fourth-best three-point total by a Bradley frosh (34).

This season, she is second on the team and 12th in the MVC in scoring at 13.0 points per contest, in addition to ranking among the top 10 in the league in steals (6th - 1.9 per game), three-pointers per game (8th - 1.9 per game) and blocks (T6th - 0.9).

Saturday's win pushed Bradley's overall record to 14-4 as the Braves surpassed last year's win total (13).  In fact, for the first time in program history Bradley has improved its overall win total in four consecutive seasons.  The Braves continue a three-game road swing Friday at Valparaiso (7 p.m.).
