Ward Named Valley Track Athlete of the Week

After another record-setting performance at the Washington Invitational on Saturday, senior Michael Ward of the Bradley track and field team was honored as Missouri Valley Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week, announced on Tuesday.

Ward ran the 3,000m in Seattle in a school-record time of 7:57.88 – breaking his own school standard by nearly a second. His time isn't just the fastest in the Valley this season by nearly 17 seconds, but also ranks as the second-quickest time in conference history – only Illinois State's Julian Mwangi had a better time with 7:55.40 in 1999.

The senior also ranks 17th nationally with his sub-eight minute mark.

The weekly honor marks the second time in his career that Ward collected MVC Track Athlete of the Week accolades. He also picked up the honor twice in cross country.

Ward and the Braves are back in action this weekend at Notre Dame, competing at the Meyo Invitational. The two-day meet is set to begin on Friday.
