PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior runner Michael Ward (Cardiff, South Wales/Llanishen) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after a record-breaking performance at the Washington Invitational in Seattle, Wash.

Ward broke the school record in the 3,000 meters, clocking a time of 7:57.88 at the Washington Invitational to break his own school mark in the event.  In fact, he posted the second-fastest 3,000-meter time in Missouri Valley Conference history, topped only by Julian Mwangi's (Illinois State) conference record of 7:55.40 set in 1999 and Ward owns the 17th-best time in the nation this season.  A graduate student with a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average as he pursues a master's in business administration, Ward earned a bachelor's degree from Bradley in biochemistry.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Ward and the Bradley Track & Field teams are back in action this weekend, competing at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., Friday and Saturday.
