Braves Fourth After Day One At Chippewa Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. -- Senior Taylor Ledwein carded a four-over 76 in her first round of the 2019-20 season and is tied for seventh overall, while Bradley Women's Golf sits in fourth in the 13-team field after the opening day of action at the inaugural Chippewa Invitational Monday.

Ledwein made her return to the lineup after missing the first three tournaments of the season due to injury to shoot four birdies in a first-round, four-over par 76 Monday at the par-72 Birmingham Country Club. Tied for seventh in the individual standings, Ledwein enters Tuesday's final round four shots back of the individual leaders.

All five Braves in the lineup shot 78 or better and Bradley's opening-round 308 was the team's lowest round since the final round of the Cardinal Classic back on Sept. 17. The Braves closed the day fourth in the team standings at 308, eight shots back of Western Michigan, which leads the field at 12-over 300.

Grand Valley State is second overall at 306, while Northwood (Mich.) is one shot ahead of Bradley at 307. The Braves have a five-shot lead on fifth-place Oakland (313) and sit eight shots better than sixth-place Oakland (316).

Junior Maddie Hawkins parred the final five holes to wrap up a solid five-over 77 and is tied with Bradley freshman Mara Flaherty, who had 13 pars on the day, for 14th overall.

The combo of senior Megan Medinger and sophomore Megan Welch join the rest of the Braves in the top 20 with the pair tied for 19th overall after firing opening round 78's. Welch finished one shot short of matching her career-low round.

Sophomore Elyse Emerzian is in the field as an individual and sits in a tie 39th overall after turning in an opening-round 81 Monday.

Tuesday's final round of the Chippewa Invitational gets underway with a 9 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start.
