PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior women's tennis player Natalia Barbery (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Evert Tennis Academy) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after posting a 2-2 record at last week's ITA Central Region Championships.

Barbery went 1-1 in singles action in addition to teaming with junior Sandra Maletin for a 1-1 record in the doubles main draw.  Barbery earned a 6-4, 6-1 win in singles qualifying over Omaha's Natalie Lorentz before a second-round loss to Natsumi Kurahashi of Wichita State.  In doubles action, Barbery and Maletin posted an 8-7 win in the first round of the Main Draw over a Creighton squad to reach the Round of 32, where the duo's run ended with a loss to an Iowa State tandem.  An industrial engineering (engineering management) major, Barbery owns a 3.67 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Barbery and the Bradley Women's Tennis team concluded their fall schedule at the ITA Region Championships in Norman, Okla., last week and are slated to open the spring schedule, Jan. 24 with a home match against IUPUI.
