Kherat Adds Valley Defensive Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS – A day after being named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week, Bradley senior defender Walid Kherat (Peoria, IL/Richwoods HS) has been selected the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Kherat's latest honor comes after helping the Braves to a 1-0-1 record in a pair of shutout performances last week at Shea Stadium versus Missouri Valley Conference rivals Loyola Chicago and Valparaiso, results that bumped Bradley into second place in the league standings. Not only did he anchor the defensive effort in Bradley's two games last weekend by playing all 190 minutes, Kherat also scored the game-winning goal in Sunday's 1-0 win against Valparaiso.

Aided by Kherat's efforts as a central defender, Bradley limited Loyola Chicago to four shots on goal in Wednesday's scoreless draw and just two shots during the game's final 44 minutes, 11 seconds. Kherat and his defensive mates again limited the opposition to four shots on goal in Sunday's 1-0 win against Valparaiso. The senior defender scored his second goal of the season, and third of his career, in the 67th minute by heading home on a long throw sequence for the game-winning tally.

The Valley honor is the second for Kherat, who also completed the national team and MVC weekly double during the second week of the 2018 season.

After its unbeaten week bumped the Braves (5-5-4, 4-3-2 MVC) into second in the MVC standings with 14 points, Bradley will take a break from the league race by heading out on the road for a pair of non-conference games: Friday at Northern Kentucky and next Monday at Western Illinois.
