Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
MACOMB, Ill. – Junior Gabi Haack knocked down five three-pointers and scored a game-high 20 points to pace four Bradley players in double figures as the Braves posted a convincing 84-49 victory at Western Illinois Wednesday.

Bradley improved to 3-1 with the victory, earning its second road win of the young season.  The Braves held Western Illinois (3-3 overall) to just 23 percent shooting and BU made 11 three-pointers while owning a 59-35 rebounding advantage to dominate the glass.

"We have a lot of weapons and it's hard to shut everyone down (in our lineup)," said Bradley head coach Andrea Gorski. "I thought we shot the ball pretty well and did a good job of limiting their open looks from three.  Right now I'm just excited about how we played together on both ends of the floor."

Haack turned in the 11th 20-point game of her career and moved up five spots on Bradley's career scoring list into 29th.  Joining her in double figures were junior Nyjah White, sophomore Lasha Petree and freshman Mahri Petree, who each scored 14 points.  Senior Chelsea Brackmann hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds in just 18 minutes of action to go with six points.

Bradley battled foul trouble throughout the first half with two starters each picking up two fouls in the first 7:11 of play.  Despite the foul trouble, Bradley shot 48 percent in the first and led 25-11 after 10 minutes.  Western Illinois scored the first points of the game, before a 9-0 BU run over a 1:45 stretch capped by the first Haack three-pointer of the night put the Braves out front 9-3.
White scored eight points to help highlight the first quarter for Bradley.

Haack dominated the second quarter, knocking down 4-of-6 three-pointers during the period as she scored 12 of Bradley's 21 points.  She finished with 18 points in the first half of play.  Mahri Petree added a three-pointer of her own and had five points in the second to help Bradley stretch the lead to as many as 30 (41-14).  Haack highlighted a 16-0 run midway through the second quarter with a trio of three-pointers over a near four-minute stretch with Bradley eventually taking a 46-19 lead into the locker room at the half.

Bradley held Western Illinois to just two field goals over the final 14:15 of the first half with the Leathernecks shooting just 13 percent (4-for-30) in the opening 20 minutes.

Another 16-0 BU run to start the third quarter saw the Bradley lead balloon to 62-19 as the Braves cruised to the 84-49 victory. After picking up two fouls in the first minute of the game, Lasha Petree returned to the court to start the second half and scored eight points during a 90-second span to highlight the 16-0 spurt to open the third.  She scored all 14 of her points in the third.

Bradley is 3-1 or better to start a season for the third consecutive year, but are 3-1 with two road wins in the first four contests of a season for the first time since 2001-02.

Bradley returns to Renaissance Coliseum this weekend, hosting Miami (Ohio) in a 1 p.m. contest.
