Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley scored the first nine points of the game and led from wire-to-wire, topping Miami (Ohio) 79-68 Saturday afternoon at Renaissance Coliseum as the Braves earned their third straight victory to improve to 4-1 on the year.

Junior Gabi Haack, who passed BU head coach Andrea Gorski along with former teammate Anneke Schlueter on Bradley's career three-point list, scored a team-high 24 points to pace the Braves.  Fellow junior Nyjah White and sophomore Lasha Petree each added 14 points, while senior Chelsea Brackmann finished a point short of her first double-double of the year with nine points to go with a season-high 18 rebounds.

"We wanted to win the rebounding battle and we did that," said Gorski.  "We knew we had to be aggressive and get to the free throw line to beat a solid team and we did that.  We have some things to clean up, but we'll take a win over a quality team."

Bradley took control from the outset, scoring the first nine points of the contest.  A pair of Haack free throws opened the scoring and Petree knocked down a three-pointer on Bradley's second possession of the game to give the Braves a 5-0 lead.  Back-to-back baskets from Brackmann made it a 9-0 lead less than four minutes into the game and forced a Miami (3-2 overall) timeout.

With Bradley leading 23-19 early in the second quarter, Haack knocked down a three-pointer to push the lead to seven and followed a Miami miss with a layup.  Miami scored just two points over the first 4:38 of the second quarter with Bradley pushing the advantage to double digits (29-19) on a Mahri Petree free throw.  The Braves held the Redhawks to just two field goals in the second quarter, with the Braves building a 38-24 halftime lead.

Bradley managed to push the lead to as many as 18 points (42-24) in the opening moments of the third quarter, but Miami was able to cut the lead in half (51-42) with just under three minutes to play in the period.  A three-point play by Haack near the two-minute mark and her fourth three-pointer of the day gave the Braves a 57-42 advantage heading to the fourth.

A 10-0 Bradley run midway through the fourth put the game away.  Miami had cut the deficit to 10 (64-54) with 4:41 to play when sophomore Tatum Koenig sparked the run with a three-pointer.  White had a steal and breakaway layup on the next Miami possession and Koenig followed a defensive stop with a pair of free throws as Bradley scored seven points in a 45-second span.

Brackmann split a pair of free throws with 2:30 to play and White added two more free throws with 2:19 on the clock as Bradley had its biggest lead of the day at 74-54. The Braves closed out the 79-68 victory to extend their win streak to three games.

Bradley held Miami to 28.4 percent shooting and had a 49-35 rebounding advantage.  Haack pushed her career three-point total to 151, going 4-of-8 from beyond the arc in the 24-point effort and climbed three spots on Bradley's career scoring list into 26th with the 12th 20-point game of her career.

Lauren Dickerson paced three Miami players in scoring with a game-high 28 points.

Bradley travels to Conway, S.C., for the Coastal Carolina Thanksgiving Classic, where the Braves face George Mason (Nov. 29) and Richmond (Dec. 1).
