Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore Lasha Petree scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting, junior Nyjah White nearly collected a triple-double and junior Gabi Haack scored all 13 of her points in the second half to help power Bradley Women's Basketball to a 74-62 exhibition victory over Illinois-Springfield Sunday afternoon at Renaissance Coliseum.

Bradley led from wire-to-wire in the contest, scoring the first nine points of the game and jumping out to a 16-2 advantage less than eight minutes in.  White scored the first points of the afternoon, but Petree had the next seven points during Bradley's opening barrage.  Freshman Mahri Petree followed a UIS basket with a three-pointer, while junior Emily Marsh and White each added hoops to help the Braves push the lead to 16-2.

After shooting 50 percent in the first quarter and opening an 18-9 lead, Bradley was 10-for-17 (58.8 percent) shooting in the second quarter.  The Prairie Stars scored the first points of the second, only to have the Braves answer with a 13-2 run.  Lasha Petree scored the final seven points of the run, capping the spurt with a three-pointer to give BU a 31-13 edge nearing the midway point of the second and Bradley eventually took a 41-24 lead into the locker room at the half.

Another 13-2 BU run over the first 3:10 of the third quarter put the game out of reach.  A Lasha Petree hoop started the run which pushed the lead to 54-26 with just under seven minutes to play in the third.  White found Haack for a layup and later assisted a Lasha Petree three-pointer.  Haack was the beneficiary of two more White assists, with the sharp-shooting guard burying a pair of three-pointers to close the run.

Bradley was 23-for-40 from the field (57.5 percent) over the first 23:10 of the game, including 7-of-10 from three-point range before cooling off down the stretch.

The Braves lead was still 26 points (60-34) near the three-minute mark of the third period before UIS was able to trim into the Bradley advantage.  The lead never dipped back into single digits down the stretch, however, as Bradley cruised to the 74-62 victory.

Lasha Petree finished with a game-high 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting to go with six points and a pair of steals.  Haack added 13 points and two blocks in 33 minutes of action, while White tallied nine points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and two steals to help highlight the win.  Senior Chelsea Brackmann had a very efficient 12 minutes, finishing with seven points and six boards.  Mahri Petree highlighted the play of the three BU newcomers, adding seven points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.

Malea Jackson paced Illinois-Springfield in scoring with 16 points off the bench as the UIS reserves scored 33 of the team's 62 points.

Bradley opens the 2019-20 regular-season Friday in Rochester, Mich., with a 6 p.m. (CST) game at Oakland.
