MACOMB, IL – Bradley junior forward Gerit Wintermeyer calmly collected a Rasmus Smidtslund service with two defenders around him and found the back of the net for the game-winning goal with just 23 seconds remaining in regulation, lifting the visiting Braves (6-6-4) to a 2-1 victory at Western Illinois (4-12-1) Monday afternoon at Mackenzie Alumni Field.

The win halted WIU's five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1) and pushed the Braves to 10-3-2 all-time on the road against the Leathernecks.

Bradley's active career scoring leader, as well as the 2019 leader, Wintermeyer netted his fifth goal of the year and his third game-winner.  He also pushed his career totals to 19 career goals, tied for ninth in Bradley history, and seven game-winners, tied for seventh in program history.

The Braves found themselves in an early hole when Ryan DeBois put the hosts on the board at 10:53.  Bradley turned up the pressure late in the first half, ending the period with a 7-2 advantage in shots, but unable to find the equalizer before the break.

Bradley did pull even in the 58th minute when freshman Devin Slingsby finished a corner kick sequence for his first career goal.  Nick Feeney, who earned his first career point, started the scoring play by serving the corner kick from the far side.  Slingsby collected on the  left flank and curled his shot inside the right post to knot the score at 1-1.

The Braves appeared to pull ahead a short time later when Jack Lang scored, but his goal was waved off for offsides.  The senior midfielder came through on the winning play, however: as the Braves built up the field in a final surge, Lang played the ball from the middle of the park to Smidtslund on the right flank for the winning service to Wintermeyer.

Bradley will close the 2019 regular season Saturday by hosting Missouri Valley Conference rival Evansville in a 2 p.m. kickoff at Shea Stadium.  By coupling a win Saturday with a Valparaiso result against Loyola Chicago, Bradley would secure the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in next week's MVC Men's Soccer Championship.  Bradley enters the weekend third in the MVC standings and can finish anywhere from second to fourth.

Bradley Soccer single-game tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for youth and FREE for Bradley University students, faculty and staff, as well as active military members and their immediate family.  Fans also may request complimentary tickets via the Bradley Soccer Ticket Bank by completing the request form at BradleyBraves.com.
