Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior Gabi Haack paced four Bradley players in double figures with a game-high 14 points and hit a pair of three-pointers during a 19-0 fourth-quarter run to help Bradley Women's Basketball pull away for a 66-46 victory over Eastern Washington Saturday at the Roo Holiday Classic.

Bradley (9-2 overall) closed out the non-conference schedule with the decisive victory against Eastern Washington (1-8 overall) with the nine non-conference victories tying for the second-best total in program history.

Haack was one of four Bradley players in double figures, knocking down 3-of-6 three-pointers in her 14-point effort.  Sophomore Lasha Petree, who was named to the Roo Holiday Classic All-Tournament team, finished with 12 points and three steals.  Senior Chelsea Brackmann added 10 points to go with seven rebounds, while junior Emily Marsh scored 10 points off the bench in the victory.

Bradley had just nine turnovers against the Eagles and had a commanding 17-0 advantage in points off turnovers.  Despite shooting just 37 percent from the field for the game, the Braves were 9-of-18 from beyond the arc and managed to limit Eastern Washington to just 29.6 percent shooting for the day, including 2-of-18 (11.1 percent) in the fourth quarter.

"Gabi (Haack) came up huge during that fourth-quarter stretch, getting us extra possessions on the boards and knocking down some big three's," said Bradley head coach Andrea Gorski.  "We didn't shoot particularly well, but we had a great effort on the defensive end and limited the turnovers."

The Braves never trailed in the game, but it was a 19-0 run to start the fourth quarter which put the contest out of reach.  With Bradley leading 47-42 to start the fourth, Haack opened the final period with a three-pointer.  Brackmann made a pair of free throws on Bradley's next possession and two more free throws from Petree quickly made it a 12-point cushion (54-42).

Junior Nyjah White went coast-to-coast for a fastbreak layup after pulling down a defensive rebound on the other end and followed another defensive stop with a hoop in the lane as Bradley's lead ballooned to 58-42 a little over three minutes into the fourth.

The third Haack three-pointer of the game pushed the lead to 19 and a pair of free throws by freshman Mahri Petree with 4:56 on the clock made gave the Braves a 63-42 advantage.  Bradley was 5-for-7 from the field to start the fourth quarter after Emily Marsh nailed a three-pointer with 4:37 left to cap the run and give the Braves a commanding 66-42 lead.  Eastern Washington was 0-for-9 from the field with two turnovers over the first 6:50 of the fourth as Bradley cruised to the 66-46 victory.

After scoring just 11 points in the first quarter of Friday's outing against Liberty, Bradley scored eight points in the first 3:51 against Eastern Washington.  Haack capped an 8-2 BU run to open the game with a three-pointer and the Braves led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.  Brackmann had six points and two boards in the opening 10 minutes.

Bradley opened the second quarter with a 7-2 spurt as the Braves had their largest lead of the first half at 21-13 closing in on six minutes left in the second.  Sophomore Tatum Koenig opened the scoring in the second with a three-pointer and Brackmann followed an Eastern Washington hoop with a basket of her own.  Lasha Petree added a basket with 6:06 on the clock to give BU a 21-13 advantage.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Jenna Dick highlighted an 8-0 Eastern Washington run in less than a minute to tie things up at 21-21, however.  Marsh broke the tie with a three-pointer with two minutes to play in the half and the second three-pointer of the period from Koenig helped Bradley take a 31-27 halftime lead.  Bradley forced 10 Eastern Washington turnovers in the opening 20 minutes and BU held a 12-0 edge in points off turnovers at the break.

Eastern Washington hit a three-pointer in the first minute of the third quarter to cut the Bradley lead to one (31-30), before the Braves used an 11-2 run to push the advantage to 42-32 nearing the midway point of the period.  Haack made a pair of free throws and followed a defensive stop with a three-point play.

Koenig chased an Eastern Washington basket with a hoop and junior Nyjah White split a pair of free throws with 5:31 left in the third.  The Braves got the offensive rebound on the missed free throw and Lasha Petree knocked down a three-pointer from the wing to give BU its largest lead of the game to that point at 42-32.

Bradley managed just two baskets in the final five minutes of the third, however, and Eastern Washington was able to pull within five points (47-42) by the end of the period.

Bella Cravens led Eastern Washington in scoring with 11 points in addition to pulling down a game-high nine rebounds.

Bradley will have a break for the holidays before opening Missouri Valley Conference play with a three-game home stand, which starts Friday, Jan. 3 with a 7 p.m. game against Evansville at Renaissance Coliseum.
