Maletin MVC Singles Player of the Week

Sophomore Sandra Maletin improved to 13-3 overall with a pair of victories at No. 1 Singles last weekend

ST. LOUIS – For the third time in the season's first four weeks, Bradley has been recognized with at least one of the Missouri Valley Conference's two women's tennis weekly honors. Sophomore Sandra Maletin (Belgrade, Serbia) has been named the MVC Singles Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office this afternoon.

Maletin becomes the fourth Bradley player recognized by the league this season: senior Malini Wijesinghe teamed with freshman Bozana Lojpur for the Doubles Team-of-the-Week honor Feb. 5, while Lojpur was the Singles Player of the Week Jan. 22 and junior Natalia Barbery received the singles honor Feb. 5.

Named to the MVC All-Select Team as a freshman in 2018, Maletin has started hot at Bradley's No. 1 Singles position in 2019. She rolled through both of her matches this past weekend, helping the Braves (5-1) to victories in their first two duals away from home. In Friday's 5-2 victory at Northern Illinois, Maletin pulled the Braves into a 1-1 tie by cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 victory against NIU's Jovana Peric. In Saturday's 4-3 victory against North Dakota, Maletin forced a 2-2 tie in the team score by completing a 6-4, 6-2 win against UND's Kaede Amano. Leading the Braves with 13 singles wins during the 2018-19 season, Maletin has won five consecutive matches at No. 1 Singles during the dual match season to improve to 13-3 overall.

Riding a 4-match winning streak, the Braves will return home for their next four matches, beginning with Friday's 5 p.m. clash against UIC (4-4) at the Clubs at River City. Bradley also will host SIU Edwardsville at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Clubs at River City. Admission is FREE for all Bradley regular-season home tennis matches.
