Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State shot 73 percent in the second half and used a 15-1 midway through the fourth quarter to take control of what was a five-point game as Bradley Women's Basketball suffered an 82-60 loss Sunday afternoon at JQH Arena.

Freshman Lasha Petree came off the bench to score 13 points to pace three Bradley (17-7 overall, 7-6 MVC) players in double figures.  Sophomore Gabi Haack added 12 points, scoring her 700th career point, while senior Shunseere Kent finished with 11 points.  Junior Chelsea Brackmann hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds to go with six points in the setback.

The loss dropped Bradley into fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference standings, while Missouri State (15-8 overall, 11-1 MVC) moved into a tie with Drake for first in the league standings.

"They had a great second half," said Bradley head coach Andrea Gorski.  "They got a big boost from Gartner, who didn't play Friday against Illinois State, and their role players came up big.  They struggled from three and mid-range shots Friday night and had a little of that early in this game, but got hot in the second half."

Bradley got off to a strong start, building a 9-3 lead six minutes into the contest.  The Braves forced Missouri State to miss its first eight shots and the Bears were just 4-of-13 (31 percent) in the opening 10 minutes.  Bradley led by as many as eight (14-6) in the opening period and took a 16-11 lead into the second quarter.

Missouri State took a 23-22 lead midway through the second on an Alexa Willard three-pointer as Bradley went nearly four minutes without a field goal before a Tatum Koenig hoop with 2:16 to play tied things up at 25-25.  The teams combined for just four field goals in the final five minutes of the first half and went into the locker room knotted at 27-27.  Petree scored eight points in the first half.

Both teams were much better offensively to start the second half, with Bradley connecting on its first five shots of the third quarter.  Missouri State forced five BU turnovers during the first six minutes of the third and the Bears were 9-of-12 from the field during the stretch as Bradley trailed 45-40 with four minutes left in the third.

Bradley would go on to make 8-of-11 from the field in the third, but the Bears equaled the Braves by connecting on 13-of-18 in the period.  A 6-2 Missouri State push to close the third gave the Braves a 53-47 advantage heading to the fourth.

A Koenig three-pointer pulled Bradley within five (57-52) early in the fourth, but Missouri State took control with a 15-1 run over the next four minutes as the Bears extended the lead to 72-53 closing in on four minutes left.  The Bears were 24-for-33 shooting in the second half en route to the 82-60 victory.

Willard was the only Missouri State player in double figures, tossing in a career-high 29 points.  The Bears shot 54 percent overall from the field, including 6-of-12 from three-point range.

Bradley opens a three-game home stand Friday, hosting I-74 rival Illinois State in a 7 p.m. game at Renaissance Coliseum.
