Gabby Stoner Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior outfielder Gabby Stoner (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping Bradley Softball to a 4-1 record at last week's Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.

Stoner hit a team-best .538 for the weekend, going 7-for-13 with four runs, three RBI, one triple and a home run. She also drew four walks and boasted a .647 on base percentage in four outings. She opened the week with a 1-for-2 effort with a run in a win against Montana and went 2-for-4 with a RBI in a win against New Mexico State later that same day. Stoner was 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple and one RBI to help the Braves to a win over Texas State Saturday. She capped the weekend by going 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a rematch with tournament-host New Mexico State as she extended her hit streak to six games. A health science major, Stoner owns a 3.40 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Stoner and Bradley Softball are scheduled to play at the Tennessee Classic this weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., with the Braves taking on Louisville Friday at 1:30 p.m. (CST) to start tournament play.
