Tennis Starts Weekend Off Strong vs. WIU

Box Score PEORIA, IL –Saturday morning at the Clubs at River City, the Bradley Braves (7-2) won the third match of their four game home stand against the Western Illinois Leathernecks (2-4).
 
The Braves No. 3 doubles team consisting of Nikki Perlwitz/Lindsay Haight stormed out to a 6-0 victory. Shortly thereafter, No. 2 Malini Wijesinghe/Bozana Lojpur won their match almost as dominantly, 6-1, clinching the doubles point.
 
In singles, No. 2 Lojpur was handed the victory after her opponent retired with Lojpur leading 4-0 in the first set. Quickly after that, Sandra Maletin won at No. 1 singles. Perlwitz finished off the Bradley victory, winning her No. 5 singles match 6-3,6-4. The teams elected not to play to completion, and all remaining matches were stopped.
 
With her doubles win, Wijesinghe tied Ashley Thai for second all time in career combined wins with 69 doubles and 51 singles victories for a total of 120 wins. The senior will have an opportunity in both doubles and singles to eclipse her former teammate tomorrow.
 
Bradley improves to 9-1 in their last 10 matches against the Leathernecks. Head coach Matt Tyler is a perfect 5-0 against Western Illinois in his time with the Braves. Bradley will finish their 4-match home stand tomorrow by hosting Chicago State at 2 P.M. The match will be held at the Clubs at River City. Admission to all Bradley Tennis regular-season home matches is free.
