PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore runner McKenzie Altmayer (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping highlight competition for the Bradley Women's Track & Field team at last weekend's MVC Indoor Championship.

Altmayer got the weekend started by helping the women's distance medley relay team to the first conference championship in the event in program history.  She joined freshman Hannah Ivy, senior Kathryn Adelman and senior Niamh Markham to clock a 11:56.37 as the group finished 6.5 seconds ahead of second-place Northern Iowa. The DMR time ranks as the fifth-fastest in school history.  Altmayer returned to the track Sunday to earn a runner-up finish in the women's 3,000 meters with the sixth-best time in school history at 9:50.61.  An English (creative writing) major with a 3.93 cumulative grade point average, Altmayer was named the MVC's Elite 17 Award winner at the MVC Indoor Championship.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Altmayer and the Bradley Track & Field squads are scheduled to open their 2019 outdoor seasons Saturday, March 23 at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic in Carbondale, Ill.
