Natalia Barbery Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior women's tennis player Natalia Barbery (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping the Braves to wins over Omaha and Eastern Illinois Saturday.
 
Barbery, who was named the Missouri Valley Conference Singles Player of the Week Tuesday, was 2-0 at No. 4 singles and split a pair of doubles matches in Bradley's two victories.  Against Omaha, she cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 singles win in a 6-1 victory over the Mavericks in addition to teaming with Sandra Maletin for a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles.  Later that day, she rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 singles win at No. 4 as Bradley snapped a 10-match losing streak in the series with Eastern Illinois with a 5-2 win.  An industrial engineering major, Barbery owns a 3.68 cumulative grade point average. 
 
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
 
Barbery and the women's tennis team are back in action Friday, taking on Northern Illinois in a noon match in Rockford, Ill.
