Ward Named Bradley Athlete of the Month

Senior Michael Ward of the men's track team is the Bradley Athlete of the Month, earning the honor after a fan vote for the month of January.

Ward completed a record-setting month in January thanks to one of the best performances in conference history at the Washington Invitational on Jan. 26. Running the 3,000m in Seattle, Ward clocked a time of 7:57.88 – topping his own school record by nearly a second. His time is also the second-fastest in Missouri Valley Conference history and the best time by any Valley runner since 1999. Ward is also 16 seconds faster than the second-best time in the MVC this year.

Ward, who currently ranks 21st nationally in the 3,000m, also owns the fifth-best time in the Valley this season in the mile with a 4:06.41 at Indiana on Jan. 12.

Ward earned the Bradley Athlete of the Month accolades after a fan vote on the school's twitter account. He collected 32 percent of the vote to beat out Gabi Haack of the women's basketball team (29 percent), Darrell Brown of men's basketball (24 percent) and McKenzie Altmayer of the women's track team (15 percent).
