Game Recap: Softball |
ORLANDO, Fla. – Bradley grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, but Purdue rallied to tie it up in the sixth and scored two unearned runs in the seventh as the Boilermakers pulled out a 4-2 victory over the Braves Saturday at the Citrus Classic.

Bradley (7-10 overall) starter Emma Jackson worked out of a jam in the top of the first after a hit batter, walk and single to open the game.  With runners at first and second with one out, Jackson got a strikeout and groundout for a scoreless top of the first.

The Braves didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard in their half of the first.  Lucy Mead reached on an error to start the inning and scored on a double to right center off the bat of senior Gabby Stoner.  A single by Stacia Seeton put two on and it was a 2-0 Bradley lead after a RBI single by senior Katie Habryle

Purdue (9-6 overall) threatened again in the top of the second, loading the bases on a single, walk and error.  A fielder's choice to second ended the inning, however.  The Boilermakers finally broke through for a run in the top of the third.  Purdue had runners at second and third with no outs after a double, single and stolen base to start the frame.  Kasey Wilhoit cut the Bradley lead in half at 2-1 with a RBI single.  Mead turned an unassisted double play for the first two outs of the inning and a fly out kept the Boilermakers from tying it up.

In the fourth, Purdue once again loaded the bases, but couldn't push a run across as the Boilermakers left a total of nine on in the first four frames.

After leaving two runners on again in the fifth, Purdue managed to tie things up at 2-2 with a run in the top of the sixth.  Jenny Behan followed a Mallory Baker one-out double with a RBI single to pull the Boilermakers even.

Bradley tried to go back in front in the bottom half, with Keeler van Breusegen hitting a one-out single and freshman Camryn Monteer reaching on an error.  A fly out and strikeout ended the Bradley half, however, as the teams went to the seventh tied at 2-2.

The fifth Bradley error of the game proved costly in the top of the seventh.  A BU error with one out allowed the go ahead run to reach and Lexi Huffman drove in the go-ahead run with a double to center.  A Rachel Becker single plated Huffman with an insurance run as Purdue grabbed a 4-2 lead.

Sydney Bates retired Bradley in order in the seventh to close out the Boilermaker victory.

The Braves continue play at the Citrus Classic this afternoon with a rematch against South Alabama at 1:30 p.m.
