Women’s Golf Tied For Fourth At MVC Championship

CHESTERTON, Ind. – Junior Taylor Ledwein is just two shots off the lead and Bradley Women's Golf is tied for fourth in the team standings after the opening two rounds of the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship Monday.
 
Bradley was five shots off the lead after the day's first round in fifth, carding an opening-round 305, while Southern Illinois fired a first-round 300 to hold the lead after 18 holes.  Drake posted a nine-over par 297 in the second round, however, and the Bulldogs hold a one-shot lead on the field at 598 at the par-72 Sand Creek Country Club.   
 
Southern Illinois slipped to second at the end of the day at 599 and defending Valley champ Missouri State is third in the standings at 607.  The Braves are one shot back of the Bears in a tie at 608 with Loyola for fourth, while Indiana State is sixth overall at 609. 
 
Indiana State's Thilda Staubo and Sydney Eaton of Northern Iowa are tied atop the individual standings at two-over par 146.  Ledwein, who fired rounds of 75 and 73, is just two shots off the lead at 148 in a tie for fifth. 
 
Senior Brooke Thompson was one shot better in the afternoon, following a first-round 76 with a 75 and is tied for 11th overall at 151 as she looks for her first top-10 finish of the year.  A pair of five-over 77's has junior Megan Medinger in a tie for 22nd overall (154), one shot out of the top 20 and four back of the top 10. 
 
Freshman Elyse Emerzian continued her strong play and sits two shots out of the top 20 in the field at 155 after rounds of 77 and 78 Monday to finish the day tied for 25th.  Senior Frankie Saban rounds out the team scoring for the Braves in a tie for 36th overall at 159.  Saban was one shot better in the afternoon, following a first-round 80 with a 79 in the afternoon.
 
The final round of the 2019 MVC Women's Golf Championship gets under way Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with Bradley in the first groups teeing off on the first hole.
