PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior first baseman Allison Apke (Teutopolis, Ill./Teutopolis) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping lead Bradley Softball to a 3-0 record last week.
Apke hit .400 for the week, going 4-for-10 at the plate with a double, one homer, three runs and two RBI in the three road wins. In Wednesday's win at I-74 rival Illinois State, she broke up the Redbirds no-hit bid with two outs in the fourth, belting her 10th home run of the season in a 2-for-3 day at the plate. She also drew a walk and had a seventh-inning single in the 8-4 victory as she extended her hit streak to a season-best nine games. Apke was hit by a pitch and scored a run in the series opener at Evansville, scoring the go-ahead run in the 3-1 victory. She capped the week with a 2-for-4 outing in the series finale. Apke drove in the game-tying run with a RBI double in the third inning and scored an insurance run in the fifth after a leadoff single as the Braves extended their road win streak to a school record 10 consecutive games. A mechanical engineering major with a biomedical concentration, Apke owns a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Apke and Bradley Softball open a three-game series at Northern Iowa with a noon doubleheader Friday in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
