Women’s Golf Sixth After Day One At Jan Weaver Invite

MURRAY, Ken. – Senior Frankie Saban is tied for 11th overall and junior Taylor Ledwein is tied for 14th as the duo helped Bradley Women's Golf finish the day sixth of 15 teams in the field at the Jan Weaver Invitational.
 
Bradley was seventh after an opening round 306 at the par-72 Miller Memorial Golf Course, but shot a second-round 302 to move up into sixth in the team standings at 608.  Tournament-host Murray State holds the spot in the team standings at nine-over par 585, with Eastern Kentucky second overall at 587 and Rutgers holding onto third at 590.
 
Saban was Bradley's top individual on the opening day, closing Friday's competition tied for 11th at five-over 149.  Saban had the low round of the day for the Braves with a one-over 73 in the second round after shooting a first-round 76 as she moved into a tie for 11th in career rounds played at Bradley (101). 
 
Ledwein was the team's top performer in the first round, carding a two-over 74.  She is one shot back of Saban in a tie for 14th overall at 150 after a second-round 76. 
 
Senior Brooke Thompson and junior Megan Medinger will head into Saturday's final round tied for 52nd overall at 157.  Thompson opened up the tournament with 77 and fired an 80 in the afternoon, while Medinger was one shot better in the second round, chasing a first-round 79 with a second-round 78. 
 
Sophomore Maddie Hawkins rounded out the team scoring for the Braves in a tie for 62nd.  Hawkins regrouped for a first-round 84 to post a 75 in the afternoon and finish the day at 159. 
 
Bradley is nine shots back of fourth-place Louisiana-Monroe (597) and just two shots behind fifth-place Tennessee Tech (606).  The Braves hold a three-shot edge on Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois, which is seventh overall at 611, and a seven shot lead on eighth-place Illinois State (615). 
 
Bradley also had three individuals in the field, paced by freshman Elyse Emerzian who followed up a season-best 78 in the opening round with a 77 in the second round and is tied for 38th overall at 155.  Fellow freshman Megan Welch is tied for 59th in the field at 158 after turning in matching 79's and Sarah Nacos had a season-low round of 80 in the afternoon as she finished the day tied for 70th at 162.
 
The final round of the Jan Weaver Invitational will tee off Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m.
