Senior Taylor Ledwein(New Prague MN/New Prague HS), a three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference performer for the Bradley University women's golf team, has qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur, which will be contested Aug. 5-11 in West Point, Miss., at Old Waverly Golf Club.

Ledwien tied for first in her sectional, sharing co-medalist honors with Kiana Oshiro by shooting an even-par, 71 Monday at the Woodhill Country Club in Wayzata, Minn.   As co-medalist at one of the 24 qualifying sectionals, Ledwein earned her entry into next month's championship.

"I played a pretty steady round and the course was in great shape," said Ledwein.  "Some of the holes played long with hills, but I was able to keep my ball in the fairway and two-putted nearly every hole."

Woodhill Country Club is just 15 minutes from her home in New Prague, aiding her familiarity with the course.  Although she has never played Old Waverly, Ledwein may benefit from the Bradley men's golf team's knowledge of the course after the Braves participated in Mississippi State's Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in April.

Ledwein now has qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur for the second time in three years, having previously played in the 2017 tournament.  During her first three years at Bradley, the 2016-17 Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year has earned All-MVC honors each year.  During her junior season in 2018-19, Ledwein was the medalist at Stetson University's Babs Steffens Hatter Classic.  She led the Braves with a 75.50 scoring average this past year, highlighted by a career-low 68 during the second round of the Golfweek Program Championship

"Having Taylor qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur is great for our team and a real nice springboard for our season," said first-year Bradley head coach Halley Morell.  "We are looking to her as our senior to provide great leadership for what will be a very young team."

Open to any female amateur whose handicap index does not exceed 5.4, the USGA accepted 1,375 entries for the 2019 U.S. Women's Amateur, a field that has been narrowed to 156 through 26 exemptions and the 24 sectional qualifiers.  The tournament will begin Aug. 5 with two days of stroke play.  The top 64 players after 36 holes of stroke play will begin a match play bracket Aug. 7 with the 36-hole championship match set for Aug. 11.
