PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore women's golfer Elyse Emerzian (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after tying for fifth at the season-opening Redbird Invitational as she helped Bradley Women's Golf to a second-place team finish.

Emerzian posted the lowest 54-hole score of her Bradley career, finishing at two-over par 218 at the par-72 Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill.  After an opening round 72 Sunday morning, she carded a career-best one-under 71 in the second round.  Emerzian started Monday's final round with a birdie and was in contention for the medalist title throughout the day before closing the tournament tied for fifth overall.  She helped Bradley card the third-lowest 54-hole team score in school history (888) as the Braves finished three shots back of team champion Xavier (885).  In addition, Bradley fired sub-300 rounds for all three rounds of a tournament for the first time in program history.  A marketing major, Emerzian owns a 3.70 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Emerzian and the Bradley Women's Golf team are back in action Monday and Tuesday, playing in Cardinal Classic in Yorktown, Ind.
