ST. LOUIS – Bradley senior defender Jacob McKee (Elgin, IL/South Elgin H.S.) is the first Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the 2019 season, according to an announcement of the league's weekly honors Monday afternoon.

The award also is the first career honor for the veteran Bradley defender, one of the team's two starting center backs in Friday's season-opening draw against Belmont at Shea Stadium. Helping to anchor a 4-man backline who each played the full 110 minutes Friday night, McKee not only helped the Braves to a shutout, but the Bradley defense also prevented Belmont from putting any of its eight total shots on target. The defensive effort marked the first time since a 3-0 win against Mercer Sept. 6, 2009 that Bradley did not allow its opponent to record a single shot on goal. The draw against the Bruins also extended Bradley's non-conference unbeaten streak to 15 games (8-0-7) dating to Oct. 17, 2017.

A fourth-year senior for the Braves, McKee made his 23rd career start Friday night. His 1,932 career minutes played in 25 career games overall, he is Bradley's most-experienced backline player.

Bradley (0-0-1) returns to action with a pair of home games this weekend, beginning with Friday night's matchup against IUPUI (0-0-1) and former assistant coaches Brian Barnett and Ronnie Bouemboue in the 11th annual Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game. Following Friday's 7 p.m. game versus the Jaguars, the Braves will host Oakland (1-1-0) Sunday afternoon at Shea Stadium. General parking will be free for Sunday's 1 p.m. game against the Grizzlies.
