PEORIA, Ill. -- First-year Bradley Women's Golf Head Coach Halley Morell makes her debut close to home, with the Braves opening the 2019-20 season just down the road at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill., Sunday and Monday.

Bradley makes a return to the Redbird Invitational after a one-year hiatus from the event after opening the 2018 Fall schedule at the Golfweek Program Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C., last year.

The Braves have had success at the par-72 Weibring Golf Club, taking second in their last appearance at the Redbird Invitational to open the 2017-18 season.

"We had great qualifying scores last weekend and this team has shown great mental toughness," said Morell.  "It will be a great experience for Sarah (Nacos) and Elyse (Emerzian) who are going to play major roles this season."

Senior Megan Medinger will be making her third appearance at the Redbird Invitational after playing as an individual in the event as both a freshman and sophomore.

Junior Maddie Hawkins also has experience at the Weibring Golf Club, playing as part of Bradley's lineup at the 2017 Redbird Invitational in her first career outing as a Brave.

After a strong spring season which culminated with a 25th-place finish at the 2019 MVC Championship, sophomore Elyse Emerzian joins fellow sophomore Sarah Nacos and freshman Mara Flaherty to round out the Bradley lineup.  Emerzian played in all five of Bradley's spring tournaments as a freshman after missing the fall season, while Nacos played as an individual in two of her three outings as a freshman last year.

The 17-team field at the Redbird Invitational features seven Missouri Valley Conference foes with Drake Evansville, Indiana State, Loyola and Southern Illinois along with tournament-host Illinois State joining Bradley in the field.  The tournament also includes five Mid-American Conference squads in Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Ohio in addition to two Big East teams (Butler & Xavier).

The 54-hole tournament gets underway with an 8 a.m. shotgun start to Sunday's two rounds of play and concludes Monday with a single round (8 a.m. shotgun).  Follow the live scoring at Birdiefire.com
