PEORIA, IL -- The Bradley soccer team extended its non-conference unbeaten streak 17 games on Sunday afternoon after a 2-2 draw against Oakland at Shea Stadium. The Braves are now 1-0-2 on the year, while the Golden Grizzlies move to 2-1-1.
After a scoreless opening period, it was Bradley who grabbed the early momentum in the second half with two early goals. Just 18 seconds into the frame, defender Walid Kherat sent a ball from midfield that bounced over the Oakland goalie and into the net for the 1-0 advantage.
Less than six minutes later, Bradley would double its advantage. Freshman
Danny Collins provided some strong pressure deep in the Oakland zone and would deflect a clearing pass right to junior
Gerit Wintermeyer. The forward then calmly slotted the ball into the net for his second goal of the season and a 2-0 Bradley lead in the 52nd minute.
Oakland, however, would rally back. The Golden Grizzlies pulled within one in the 60th minute when Luke Morrell poked in a ball from a long throw-in. Oakland then squared the game in the 70th minute, taking advantage of a turnover in the midfield and finishing it off with Cameron Wilde's strike for the 2-2 contest.
Both teams would settle down from there and did not allow a tally in the final 40 minutes to share the points.
Oakland finished the game with a 13-7 advantage in shots, while holding a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
Senior Nathan Wisbey stopped three shots in net to earn the draw for BU.
Bradley wraps up its early four-game homestand with a contest against Eastern Illinois next Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Shea Stadium.
