ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- For the second time this season and third time in her career sophomore Lasha Petree (Detroit, Mich./Arbor Prep) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.

Petree takes home Valley Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, also earning the distinction back on Dec. 9, to become the first Bradley player to earn MVC Player of the Week twice in the same season since Monica Rogers in 2008-09.  The Player of the Week award is the third this season for the Braves (Gabi Haack on Nov. 25) to mark the first time Bradley had three MVC Player of the Week selections in the same season dating back to that same 2008-09 campaign.

Averaging an impressive 30.0 points per game during the opening weekend of Missouri Valley Conference play on 62.2 percent shooting (23-for-37), Petree also collected seven blocks (3.5 per game) as she helped Bradley to just the seventh 2-0 start to league play in program history with wins over Evansville and Indiana State.

Petree scored a game-high 24 points in the Valley opener against Evansville, connecting on 10-of-18 from the field in just 26 minutes of action.  The only player in the nation with 35 three-pointers and at least 19 blocked shots, Petree added four rejections and two steals against the Aces as Bradley won a conference opener at home for the first time since 1996-97.  The 31-point win against Evansville was Bradley's largest margin of victory in a conference opener dating back to 1994-95.

Petree then highlighted Sunday's 91-75 win over Indiana State with a career-best 36-point effort.  She was 13-of-19 from the field, including 4-for-8 from three-point range and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line to go along with two rebounds and three blocks.  Her 36 points were the most in a game by a Brave since Michelle Young tied the Bradley single-game scoring record of 38 points at Columbia on Nov. 26, 2014 and most in a home game at Bradley dating back to a 37-point outing by Karen Anderson on Dec. 14, 1981 (vs. St. Xavier).  Petree had a personal 12-point run toward and end of the first quarter and early into the second as she scored 20 points over a span of eight minutes and 20 seconds between the two periods.

Just the third Bradley sophomore to reach 600 career points in 42 games or less, Petree topped the 600-point plateau in 42 career games over the weekend to become the sixth fastest player in program history to reach the 600-point mark.  She joins Bradley Hall of Fame member Shelli Braud (1984-88) as the only three-time MVC Player of the Week selections in program history.

Petree is currently averaging 18.6 points per game to tie for the league lead and has averaged 23.0 points per contest over the last six games.

Bradley Women's Basketball is one of three Valley teams with a 2-0 league mark after the opening weekend of conference action and will host I-74 rival Illinois State Friday at 7 p.m. in a matchup of 2-0 squads.
