Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Lasha Petree scored a game-high 23 points and senior Gabi Haack added 14, but Bradley Women's Basketball had a 12-game home non-conference win streak snapped with a 65-60 setback to Milwaukee Saturday night at Renaissance Coliseum.

Petree scored her 900th career point with the 23-point effort to move ahead of Leti Lerma on Bradley's career scoring list into a tie for 25th with Jenn Jolley at 920 points.  She matched a career-high with 10 made three throws, connecting on 10-of-11 from the charity stripe, and tallying three blocks and two steals.

Haack had 14 points of her own, with 10 coming in the second half, as she and Petree combined for 28 of BU's 38 second-half points.  Bradley (1-1 overall) struggled with foul trouble throughout the contest with a trio of Braves fouling out and Milwaukee (2-0 overall) taking advantage by making 23-of-29 attempts from the charity stripe.

Both teams got off to slow starts with each team shooting under 30 percent in the first half.  Bradley held a 22-19 lead at the break after limiting Milwaukee to just 19.4 percent shooting (6-of-31) in the opening 20 minutes.

The third quarter featured four lead changes and four ties with the Braves hanging on to a 42-40 lead at the end of the period.  Petree scored 11 of her game-high 23 points in the third.

Haack made three free throws with 8:04 to play in the fourth quarter to give Bradley its largest lead of the contest (49-42), before an 11-0 Milwaukee run put the Panthers in front.  Emma Wittmershaus had back-to-back baskets to start the Panther run and Bre Cera followed a three-pointer with a pair of free throws to give Milwaukee a 53-49 lead with just under four minutes to play.

Haack answered with a layup, only to have Morton, Ill., native Brandi Bisping make a pair of free throws with 2:58 on the clock to push the Milwaukee lead back to four (55-51).  After a Bradley miss, McKaela Schmelzer knocked down a three to give the Panthers their biggest lead of the night at 58-51, capping what was a 16-2 spurt for Milwaukee.

Petree made a pair of free throws with 1:02 to play and Milwaukee split a pair of free throws on the next trip before Lasha nailed a three-pointer with 45.3 seconds left to once again make it a one-possession game at 61-58.

It was still a one-possession game at 63-60 with 26.2 seconds remaining after freshman Isis Fitch chased a pair of Bisping free throws with a put-back basket.  The Braves missed their final two shots, however, and Bisping added two more free throws as Milwaukee escaped with a 65-60 victory.

The loss snapped a 12-game home win streak in non-conference games for the Braves that dated back to a two-point loss to Cleveland State on Dec. 19, 2017.  Saturday's game was the fifth all-time meeting between Bradley and Milwaukee, with all five games in the all-time series now decided by five points or less.

Bradley hits the road for the first time in 2020-21, heading to Dayton, Ohio, for a game at Wright State Wednesday.
